The Free Plan Limit — How It Works
This is the part worth understanding properly.
The Free plan allows 3 active images. You can create more than three, but only your 3 most recently created images stay active. Everything older is marked Locked.
A locked image:
- does not render on your storefront — the block shows nothing
- cannot be published — the Published switch is disabled
- keeps all its hotspots — nothing is deleted
- keeps its click history — nothing is lost
- is still fully editable inside the app
The lock is applied automatically by the app. You cannot lock or unlock an image yourself — it is decided entirely by your plan and by which images are newest.
What you will see
On the Free plan the Dashboard shows one of:
- “Free plan: N of 3 images used” — you still have room.
- “Free plan limit reached (3 images)” — you are at the cap.
Once you are at the cap, the Create image button is disabled, and trying to reach the create page sends you to the pricing page instead.
Locked images show a Locked badge on the images list, and their edit screen shows “Only your 3 most recent images stay active on the Free plan.”
Preview-only features
Add to cart and Masonry layout can be switched on in the Theme Editor on the Free plan, and you will see them working in the Theme Editor preview. They do not take effect for real shoppers on your live store until you upgrade. See Theme Blocks.
Upgrading
- Go to Pricing in the app navigation.
- Choose Ultimate Monthly or Ultimate Annual and click Upgrade.
- Shopify shows its own approval screen with the charge details.
- Click Approve.
You are returned to the pricing page and the new plan is active immediately.
What happens the moment you upgrade:
- Every locked image is unlocked at once, with all of its hotspots intact.
- The image limit is removed — create as many as you want.
- Add to cart and Masonry become active on your live storefront, using whatever block settings you already saved. No theme changes are needed.
Note: Unlocking restores images to their previous Published state. An image you had deliberately hidden before it was locked stays hidden — turn it back on from its edit screen.
Switching Between Monthly and Annual
You can switch in either direction at any time.
- Go to Pricing.
- On the plan you want, click Switch to this plan.
- Approve the new charge in Shopify.
Shopify handles the changeover and prorates the existing subscription according to its standard billing rules. There is no interruption to your features — you stay on Ultimate throughout.
Downgrading to Free
- Go to Pricing.
- Click Downgrade to Free.
- Confirm the prompt: “Downgrade to the Free plan? You will lose access to unlimited images.”
Your subscription is cancelled and your shop returns to the Free plan.
What happens when you downgrade:
- Your 3 most recently created images stay active.
- Every other image is locked — hidden from your storefront, but not deleted. All hotspots and all click history are kept.
- Add to cart and Masonry stop working on your live store. They stay switched on in your block settings and keep working in the Theme Editor preview.
- Analytics continues to work in full.
Nothing is ever deleted by a downgrade. Locking is fully reversible: upgrade again and every locked image comes straight back, exactly as it was, with its hotspots and history. You never have to rebuild anything.
Which three stay active is decided by creation date, not by which you consider most important. If you plan to run on Free long-term, that is worth keeping in mind — the three you keep are simply the three you made most recently.
Billing FAQ
Can I switch plans at any time? Yes. Upgrade, downgrade, or move between monthly and annual whenever you like, from the Pricing page.
What happens to my images if I downgrade? Nothing is deleted. Your 3 most recent images stay active; the rest are locked and stop showing on your storefront until you upgrade again.
Will I get my images back if I upgrade again? Yes — immediately, and complete with their hotspots and click history.
Is there a trial? The Free plan is permanent and unlimited in time. It is not a trial that expires; the only limit is 3 active images.
How am I billed? Through Shopify. Charges appear on your normal Shopify invoice — the app never handles your payment details.
Do hotspots count towards any limit? No. Hotspots are unlimited on every plan, including Free. Only the number of images is limited.
Is analytics limited on the Free plan? No. Click tracking, the Analytics page, per-image breakdowns, and full history are identical on both plans.
Do I need to change my theme after upgrading? No. Unlocked images and the plan-gated block settings take effect automatically.
